We had a great turn out for Friday's Arts on Main! Fire jugglers, Jeff and Renee, put on a great show. What a unique talent! We are looking forward to having them again. Grafitti artist Olof Aspelin and a couple friends wowed people with their live painting. It is so inspiring to witness the creative process unfold. We also had jewelry artist Chandra set up. She designs and makes really fun metal bracelets, necklaces, rings and other items. Each piece is a work of art! Charlie set up his booth with flowers, herbs and succulent plants. His well thought-out displays include country antiques and are absolutely breath-taking! Finally, Jessica set up a table with gorgeous hand made jewelry and pottery. She always brings beautiful things to sell! We're excited to see this event expand every second Tuesday of the month with more vendors and artists. Spaces are also available to rent every weekend. If you have unique items to sell, feel free to contact us!
Today the West Springfield Middle School took a field trip to our shop! We had about 50 eight graders browse the shop and the open air market for a treasure (or two) to take home. Michael Chotkowski, a teacher at the school, started a program through the history department called "Westside Pickers". The program is federally funded through a grant that he applied for. The students each have about $20 to spend on an antique to research. When they return to school they write a report on the artifact and share what they learned with the other students. The students were all courteous and well behaved! We had a great time and look forward to having them again in the fall. A big thank you to Mike and Michele :) |
